Fossilized Tusk, 14k Gold Fill, and Silver Dragonfly Pendant

Our gold fill and sterling silver dragonfly pendant is perhaps our most earthen rendition of this mystical insect from Zealandia's silver dragonfly jewelry collection. The dragonfly is revered as a symbol of healing with its connection to both the water and to the air. He owes his name to the myth that he was once a dragon, and he is still a powerful creature indeed. This winged beauty represents a change in perspective and evolution through self realization. He is a potent symbol of personal transformation.

Our designers chose a mixed metal combination of gleaming sterling silver and warm 14k gold fill for the dragonfly's body—two fine metals that combine to form a richly subtle palette against the fossilized ivory's earthy tones. The wings in this dragonfly pendant are hand carved with delicate veining that accentuates the fossilized ivory's polished luster.

The dragonfly's wings are made from fossilized walrus tusk ivory, an ancient material some 500 to 3,000 years old that comes back to us from the earth. After burial and centuries underground where minerals color the walrus ivory fawn to chestnut shades, erosion uncovers it and Native peoples gather it for carving, sale, or trade. This precious material is prized as an irreplaceable accent in carved ivory pendants such as this one and in other art works.
