This distinctive pair of black onyx and fossilized walrus ivory earrings combines two powerful symbols: the watchful eye and the goddess. Our designers set these two symbols into our hinge design with the eye on top in a position of protection and awareness. The hinge setting is moveable, though these earrings do not swing excessively between the two sections.

The goddess, another symbol of protection, also watches benevolently from her place below the eye. Her hair flows freely, signifying her beauty and femininity. These two earrings form a pair of eyes when worn together—both in a matching up of the two black onyx eyes and the two halves of the goddess' faces. They are a striking pair that tell an ancient and allegorical story about the power of the goddess in our daily lives.

Black onyx, a deep and potent stone, is considered a stone of healing and inner strength. It is a favorite when set into gleaming sterling silver for the bold contrast these two elements create.

Our artisans have hand carved the goddess faces from fossilized walrus ivory, which is between 500 and 3,000 years old. Centuries in the earth gently color the fossilizing ivory a range of warm tones from pale cream to deep umber. We typically select the paler fossilized walrus ivory for these earrings, though the exact color of your goddess eye earrings may vary from the color pictured here. Fossilized walrus ivory is a highly prized cultural and indigenous economic resource for the Native peoples who gather it for carving, trade, and international sale.
