Fossilized Walrus Tusk Acorn Necklace, Silver

The acorn has enjoyed a long and storied history that makes this fruit one of the most interesting and ubiquitous on earth. Various traditions see the acorn as a symbol of good luck and abundance. Its parent oak tree is held as sacred for its life giving properties and majesty. The acorn is even said to promote longevity and fertility. Today, acorns are still carried as healing talismans.

The acorn's shape, and particularly its cup, brings on visions of fairies sipping dew in the woods. The acorn is inextricably associated with wooded places, and it is an important food source for many animals from squirrels to deer, chipmunks, rabbits, wild turkeys, and more. The acorn is also deeply symbolic of the potential in all things. From the modest acorn the might oak does grow!

Our acorn necklace captures this lovely fruit in all its simplicity and perfection of line. The scaly cupule is made from patterned sterling silver and the nut itself from fossilized walrus ivory. Our fossilized walrus ivory is some 500 to 3,000 years old. It has lain buried in the earth for centuries, accreting a range of warm caramel to deep cocoa hues that makes it ideal for representing the acorn nut. This fossilized ivory is a valuable cultural and economic resource for the Native peoples who gather it as part of their subsistence economy.

Pair this lucky acorn necklace in silver and fossilized ivory with our coordinating acorn earrings for a complete set!
