Fossilized Walrus Tusk Silver Bee Necklace

Bees are among the most beautiful and essential members of our creature companions. The Egyptians saw them as symbols of the soul, and they are also associated with community, dedication, and diligence. Zealandia designers have showcased the bee set into spiral patterns in this bee pendant necklace. These patterns suggest the honeybee's waggle dance - a distinctive spiraling figure eight -dance- that tells its hive mates how to find a nearby nectar source.

Peridot - a semi-precious stone closely associated with harmony and stress relief - is used in this walrus ivory pendant for its verdant tone. It is difficult to picture a bee away from the greenery that sustains it; these primary pollinators spend so much time among the flowers we have to remind ourselves they have an important job to do. We would not be where we are today without the bee who pollinates flowering and fruit bearing plants, which in turn sustain the entire food chain.

This bee is hand carved from fossilized walrus ivory, an ancient material that has spent the majority of its life - many, many centuries - buried in the earth. There it gathers its caramel to cocoa color. Indigenous peoples collect this ancient ivory after the tides and erosion bring it again to the light.

The fossilized walrus tusk ivory infuses this silver bee necklace with an age-old history, a touch of ancient times. This fossilized ivory is prized and carved the world over for inclusion in fine jewelry and artisanal works.
