This silver and carved ivory pendant features a lone polar bear on his search across the ice, depicting transcendent Northern symbolism and a sparkling rainbow moonstone sky accent.
Our ancient ivory polar bear necklace is hand carved from fossilized mammoth ivory, a wonderful material that shares a unique and poignant connection with the polar bear. Mammoth ivory is over 15,000 years old from sources that have lain in the earth for centuries after the last of the great mammoths became extinct. The polar bear is now threatened with extinction due to global warming and the changing ice caps that enable him to hunt adequately for survival.
Centuries in permafrost or the earth have colored the mammoth ivory a range of pale white to soft creamy hues that are ideal for representing the polar bear's coat. A faceted rainbow moonstone accent gives this mammoth ivory necklace a touch of Northern sparkle, mimicking the radiant bursts of color we see in the Northern lights. Moonstone is also considered a deeply spiritual stone, adding another layer of connection with Spirit highlighted in this piece.
