"Fordite" Sterling Silver Pendant

While Fordite is not really a gemstone, the patterns and bright colors have afound a deserving place in jewelry design. Fordite is also known as Detroit agate. It is formed from the buildup of many layers of old enamel automobile paint which has hardened sufficiently to be cut and polished. Cars were once hand spray-painted on tracks or skids, accumulated in many layers and baked numerous times. The process is now automated so the supply of fordite is limited.

The sterling silver beaded style bail was hand made by David Herrington. This pendant is sold on an 18" 1.1mm sterling silver box "19" chain with a sterling silver lobster clasp.

The length of this pendant is approximately 1 3/4".
