The dragonfly is a happy sight in any garden where water can be found. He dips low across a pond or stream, a flash of peacock and silver that seems to own the very air he rides. Dragonflies are miraculous flyers, their wings working in a rowing motion to give them the power to hover and instant mobility in virtually every direction. They weigh a mere fraction of an ounce, and yet a dragonfly's presence belies its size. He is a powerful symbol of transformation and healing in cultures across the world.
The garden inspired this fossilized ivory, garnet, and mother of pearl dragonfly pendant. Our designers selected each material to best highlight each design element. The soft background flowers are carved from luminous mother of pearl. A faceted red garnet accent stands out as a vibrant magnet for our dragonfly. Paua shell, the green to multi-colored inner shell from the New Zealand abalone, makes a statement at the center. Our dragonfly's wings in silver and 14kt gold fill extend beyond the arch, bisecting the pendant's curved silhouette.
The dragonfly's beaded body is made from fossilized walrus ivory, an ancient and prized material some 500 to 3,000 years old. Centuries spent buried underground have left the fossilized walrus ivory in shades of caramel to deep smoky cocoa. This variegated coloring give our silver dragonfly pendant an extra touch of earthy realism.
