This striking trilobite pendant from our fossil jewelry collection features a fossilized trilobite, "Elrathia Kingi." This extinct form of marine life was the first invertebrate, flourishing some 450-550 million years ago. Prior to the dinosaurs, trilobites were the most numerous species on earth. When worked into jewelry such as this pendant, trilobites are true modern-day stars for the touch of ancient life they bring to contemporary designs.
The top accent on this trilobite pendant is hand carved from fossilized walrus ivory, which is between 500 and 3,000 years old. The native Yupik of St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, gather the fossilized walrus ivory for sale, trade, and their own art works. The Yupik are the only ones who have permission to collect this gorgeous material in the area. It is an important economic and cultural resource for them, and it makes a wonderful addition to our fossil jewelry.
