"Transition II" Ancient Fossilized Mammoth Tusk Ivory, Garnet, Mussel and Paua Silver Butterfly Pendant

This sweet garnet butterfly necklace is a winged delight with her accents of black mussel, fossilized ivory, New Zealand paua shell and hand worked sterling silver detailing.

The butterfly is a gorgeous representation of transformation. This remarkable life change inspired the piece that would remind the wearer of the power we all hold within ourselves for change. Transformation truly begins from within, and our jeweled butterfly is a visually captivating symbol of its owner's inner power.

Paua is from the variegated inner lining of the New Zealand paua (a type of abalone), and it is a highlight in all our paua jewelry.

Polished black mussel shell forms a striking contrast to the sterling silver that outlines our butterfly's upper wings. Black mussel may contain hints of warmer colors, and it is these warm undertones that bring out the fiery red in our center garnet stones.

The butterfly's lower abdomen is made from hand carved fossilized walrus tusk ivory, a prized material that is between 500 and 3,000 years old. Centuries in the earth have colored the fossilizing walrus tusk warm cream to soft caramel and cocoa colors. After erosion and the tides bring the fossilized ivory to the surface, Native peoples gather it for sale and trade. It is an important part of their indigenous economy and a stunning addition to art works and jewelry such as this carved ivory pendant.
