This wave motif necklace is a section from our flower cross necklace that stands alone in its classic simplicity and focus on form. The sterling silver arm is worked in a relief style, the background a softly oxidized contrast to the central wave lotus pattern. The pattern itself is abstract—inspired by water and by the graceful lines of the opening lotus flower. This carved ivory pendant may signify emergence, blooming, and the act of coming into one's own for the wearer.
The top accent is carved out of fossilized walrus tusk ivory, a prized natural material that is between 500 and 3,000 years old. Over the centuries, the earth's minerals have colored the walrus tusk in rich shades from soft cream to deep cocoa. Native peoples gather it for use in their art works or for sale and trade after erosion once again uncovers the fossilizing walrus ivory. Its finite supply and earthen beauty make it a highly sought after material in fine jewelry and artisan works.
As each piece of walrus ivory may vary in color and variegation, the walrus tusk in your pendant may vary from what is pictured here. We hand select all our materials to ensure the utmost quality and finish.
