Beaver Charm #0116

0116

Beavers are indeed busy - some would say too busy. They can change the water flows and water levels by building dams that they use for housing. In Maine, this sometimes leads to roads becoming impassable or waterways becoming unnavigable. Or worse, sometimes a flooded basement or driveway. One of our jewelers lost some choice fruit trees to hungry beavers who love a tasty sapling.

Out in the wilds of Maine, these little critters are industrious creating wetland habitat for dozens of species of birds, mammals, amphibians, invertebrates and fish. Their broad, flat tail is a unique characteristic that makes beavers easy to identify.

For more information about beavers checkout the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife website.
