Starfish Jewelry, Silver Walrus Ivory Earrings

The starfish - or sea star - is a highly sensitive and uniquely sensory creature. Delicate nerves run through is center and spider out to the tip of each arm, and certain species can even regenerate these limbs if lost. They harness the sea currents in lieu of blood to pump nutrients through their body and appear as almost 2,000 different species the world over.

The regenerative and sensitive qualities inherent to the star fish make it a tender symbol of the sea. Our star fish earrings are carved from fossilized walrus ivory, a centuries old material once buried in the earth and uncovered again by the tides or erosion. Native peoples gather this fossilized ivory and it is carved into pieces of Zealandia starfish jewelry and other fine works of art.

This pair of dangling starfish earrings is as beguiling as the ocean itself with its asymmetrical stone settings and use of both peridot and blue topaz accents. Blue topaz, the stone of clarity and concentration, evokes the sea's aqua depths. Peridot, the stone of stress relief and compassion, is reminiscent of the ocean's calming powers.
